Two Farm Stores on Horton Highway Now Cover College Grove's Holiday Table

"I grew up in a family-owned slaughterhouse, so I know how it should be done," Tim Humerick told the Williamson Herald when Double Barrel Meats held its ribbon cutting on July 24. The store is at 8735 Horton Highway. Its beef and chicken come from the Double Barrel Angus farm on Flat Creek Road, which is also in College Grove.

The store is a short way down the highway from Mooberry Farms at 8810 Horton Hwy, which has run its own farm store since 2023. The family registered its neighboring Southern Stitch & Print business with Williamson County on July 11, 2026, according to Williamson Source's license roundup. This is the first holiday season with both farm stores open, and that changes the Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping list. On most days of the week, a College Grove household can buy its roast, its bacon, its eggs and its ice cream from two family farms with counters on the same road.

What's in the case at 8735

Double Barrel is a family operation. The Herald reported that Humerick's son, Colton, runs day-to-day work on the farm, and his wife, Serena, makes the seasonings sold in the store. The store's website lists Angus beef sourced primarily from the family herd, and its featured cuts include beef tenderloin and filet mignon. Those two cuts tend to anchor a December dinner.

Humerick told the Herald that the farm's meat contains no hormones or other additives and that its chicken is air-cooled rather than dipped in chemicals and water. The case also carries more than the farm's own product. According to the Herald's opening report, the shelves include:

  • Frozen chicken tenders and patties from Bell & Evans
  • Ham, bacon and other products from Meats By Linz
  • Honey from Zeebeez Honey Farm in Franklin
  • Milk and ice cream from Hattie Jane's Creamery
  • Produce from local farmers and the family's homemade seasonings

The store had a following before it officially opened. The Herald reported $7,000 in sales over two days of soft opening earlier that week.

Mooberry Farms got there first

Mooberry Farms has a longer history on Horton Highway, and its store works differently. Ryan and Lorelei Gunn write on the farm's site that it began in 2020 as "three acres and a dream," became Mooberry Farms in 2022, and opened its farm store in 2023. The store sells beef, pork, eggs and coffee, and it runs a food menu in the mornings.

The coffee bar and morning menu are the difference. Double Barrel is a butcher counter with a pantry shelf. Mooberry is a place to sit down at 8 a.m.

The weekly hours, side by side

The two stores keep different schedules, and those schedules decide when you can stock up from both on one trip. Double Barrel posts hours of Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mooberry posts Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., serves its food menu from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is closed Sunday.

Day Double Barrel Meats, 8735 Horton Hwy Mooberry Farms, 8810 Horton Hwy Both open
Monday Closed 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No
Tuesday Closed 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No
Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday Closed Closed No

Saturday is the only weekend day either store is open. It also gives the best morning overlap. Breakfast at Mooberry ends at 1 p.m., and Double Barrel opens at 9 a.m., so a Saturday shopper can eat, buy eggs and coffee, and pick up the roast in one morning. If you're shopping on a weekday, start at 10 a.m., because Double Barrel doesn't open before then. Mondays and Tuesdays are Mooberry-only days.

Sunday matters most in December. Neither counter is open that day, and that's the day College Grove holds its Christmas parade.

Holiday orders start with a phone call

Neither store has posted a holiday menu with prices or order deadlines. Double Barrel's homepage says the store can help with "freezer beef and bulk orders" and "specialty cuts and holiday packs," and it asks customers to contact the store with what they want. The online catalog says freezer-bundle options vary, so check with the store or in person for what's available. The store's number for availability and orders is 615-368-2255, and its site says it is "happy to accommodate custom orders when possible."

A small shop that sells from its own herd can only offer the tenderloin the farm produced. If a whole tenderloin or a holiday pack is part of your December plans, call early in November rather than the week of the dinner. Mooberry takes calls at (615) 821-8122.

The shop next door started with a machine named Harold

The Herald noted that Double Barrel Meats sits next door to Southern Stitch & Print. That shop is owned by Serena Humerick and her daughter, Tabitha "Tabby" Humerick, and it held its own ribbon cutting earlier that month. The same family runs both storefronts.

The Williamson Herald's grand-opening story traces the business back about two years. "This all started in my dad's old gym with a single-head embroidery machine named Harold," Tabby Humerick told the paper. She worked as a large-animal veterinary technician before starting the business. Serena later left her office job to join full-time.

The shop does custom embroidery, screen printing and promotional products for businesses, schools, sports teams and community organizations, and the Herald also lists boutique gifts. In December, that puts personalized gifts and team apparel next door to the meat counter.

December 6, when the community center holds the crowd

The 2026 College Grove Christmas Parade is on Sunday, December 6, at 2 p.m. Lineup starts at 1 p.m. at the College Grove Recreation Center and Gym, 8607 Horton Hwy. According to the FranklinIs event listing, the parade is free and organized by College Grove Athletics. The listing links to the parade's Facebook page.

The staging address is on the same road as the two farm stores, a little lower on the highway's numbering. That makes the weekend easy to plan around Horton Highway. The stores are open Saturday, December 5, and the parade fills Sunday afternoon when both are closed. Franklin's own Christmas Parade is the day before, Saturday, December 5, at 1 p.m. on Main Street, according to the Downtown Franklin Rotary. Because the two parades fall on different days, College Grove's Sunday parade doesn't compete with Franklin's.

If you head toward Franklin on a weeknight, there's road work to plan for. TDOT has nightly lane closures for resurfacing on I-840 between SR 6/US 31 and east of Arno Road, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The work depends on weather and is expected to finish in December 2026.

Small, owner-run shops like these on Horton Highway shape day-to-day life in College Grove, and that daily texture is part of what we cover for clients deciding where to live.
